The USA needs a LAT workout bad.
Legitimacy. Accountability. Transparency. LAT
The United States of America desperately needs a LAT workout. We are losing liberty the way a middle aged man loses sight of his penis - one desperate inch at a time.
Why is legitimacy first? Because first and foremost, America needs to rejoin the ranks of the world community of nations. We need to prove we can be trusted when we make claims, but most of all we need to begin honoring our promises.
Remember the lost boys of Afghanistan?
This is Quomerra Telel, who in 2002 was recruited by the CIA and the US armed forces to be a native translator during home invasions in NE Afghanistan. He and dozens of others like him recruited to help the US military on the ground. Why would anyone agree to accept that job in their home country?
Every single one of these translators were promised full asylum in the United States after their work was finished. These promises were made in writing by military officers and operatives of the United States. Since all of these men would be perceived as traitorous by Afghani citizens, these promises were made to attract people desperate enough to do such a thankless job.

Here is Quomerra last year as he finished his final assignment, helping with Taliban prisoner transfers in Kandahar. He had been working part-time since it has taken two years to process his visa application for the guaranteed asylum he had promised in writing by the United States government. After two years, he learned through unofficial channels that his application was turned down without explanation.
Who is Quomerra? Just one of hundreds of Afghan nationals and Iraqi nationals who were caught in the same honey trap. What a great plan - lie to Army officers to get them to make promises, and then violate every promise that was made.
Here is Quomerra in 2012, helping relocate prisoners
near Kandahar.
Here is what Quomerra looked like last Tuesday.
Well, I guess that is one visa re-application that won't need to be rejected a twice.
Can you begin to understand why when polled in December 2013, the citizens of the world designated the United States of America as the greatest threat to peace worldwide? This is the type of image we project onto the world stage.
The cold hard fact is, when we lie to people, it has consequences. Those lies cost Quomerra his life.

this story is bullshit, the photo is someone else and the name doesn't appear in a google search.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment - I had neglected to 'fuzz out' the face on pic number 1.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the 'someone else' portion of your comment, apparently you didn't click on the follow up story at the bottom of the article. It is explained there.
I'm correcting the photo problem now.
